I was expecting a simple, linear shooter with interesting setting, but what I got was one of the most atmospheric and beautiful games I had ever seen! The "Zone" being a real life location, only twisted with a touch of scifi in the game, makes it even more interesting and warns/reminds us of the dangers of fooling around with powerful forces, in this case the nuclear power. Sure, the first version was kinda buggy, but patches fixed those fast. The large and very active modding community is the factor that really boosted this game and its sequels to the cult-hit status it has now. The mods are really recommended, there are several ones out there, but especially some of the bigger ones, like Complete 2009 or AMK 1.4 really improve the game both visually and content-wise.
