Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 (here after referred as LOK SR 2) is actually the fourth in the legacy of Kain series, the first 2 were PC RPG’s and the third an action adventure, LOK SR 2 is also an action adventure for the PS2.
What is it rated?
M: for blood and gore and intense violence.
What about the Plot?
You play as the deformed vampire Raziel. Raziel was a lieutenant of Kain, leader of the vampires, when he evolved a pair of wing, something his master had not yet done, enraged Kain ripped the bones frome them, leaving nothing but the flaps of skin, then Kain had Raziel thrown into the abyss, were he remained for a millinia in torment. Finally, Raziel awoke, finding his body deformed, his skin blue and he lacked a stomach, only his spine filled the void, Also his eyes now glow and he didn’t have a bottom jaw, he from this point on wears a rag to hide his deformity’s. He also discovers now instead of blood, he feeds of the souls of his victims,(mostly those of his vampire brothers but you will feed of a good number of humans.) Raziel then sets out on e quest of revenge against his former master Kain.
How are the graphics?
The graphics a great the CC are easy on the eyes and though castle textures seem to be repetitive they do create a great looking game.
How does LOK SR 2 play? Are the controls solid and/or fun to use?
LOK SR 2’s has great gameplay, controls are solid and responsive, I had no trouble getting Raziel to do what I wanted him to do. Two face buttons are used for attacking and action, one for jumping and gliding and the other is inhaling souls. Also on a different note, this has one of the best camera’s in any console game.
How is the violence?
Heavy and brutal, blood sprays from combatants (Raziel’s is blue, and some enemies spew green blood but its mostly red.) it splatters on the floor, on the walls, but does disappear after a few moments. Also, Raziel usually beheads his opponents which fly off and roll on the ground.
What about adult dialogue and/or sexual content?
No, none of that here.
What about spiritual content? Is it occultic or offensive to my faith? Can I play it in front of younger players?
LOK SR 2 fails on all counts, it is about vampires and magic. The blood and gore also is harsh and realistic, so no younger players should not see this game.
So what is you conclusion? Is it worth buying?
Despite its shortcomings, I enjoyed the games gritty plot and atmosphere. The in game puzzles were clever, and combat was deep enough to entertain me. I cant really recommend this game to anyone under seventeen or eighteen, and if you willing to put on your blinders to this games subject matters, you will find yourself enjoying this adventure
