@Fusionmix I think that he may have thought adult content meant anything kinda mature, including the blood and gore. Just my 2 cents. I plan on getting this game - in the Half-Life Complete Pack.

Good review, I just have a few notes to make (just beat it for the first time last night - yes, I was a little late to the party).

- The alien planet is called 'Xen', which should remove any spiritual complaints.

- Your screenshot with the tank and the grunts is from either the High Definition graphics pack (which I think comes with Blue Shift) or from the PlayStation 2 version. It looks a lot better than the original, and I think can be downloaded separately from Blue Shift. Might want to make a note of the HD pack.

And, if you'd like to make a note of versions, the PS2 version has disappearing bodies, better graphics even than the HD pack, and less gore. It does not, however, have the blood removal tool. So while enemies do not explode quite so many organs, they still bleed. Half-Life: Source is basically the original game ported over; it has some better water effects, but the textures and graphics are the same as from the regular game.

It's certainly an M-rated game, but it's one of the cleanest spiritually, and as a Christian I felt no twinges of conscience while playing it. In the plot section, you might also want to list that killing the final boss frees the alien Vortigaunt race from slavery, which is why they help you in the next game.

It is a very good review, though I'm not sure 'adult content' merits a 2/5, as there is no sexual content or immorality.

Nice work ! :)

This game is a blast to play all the way through. The story is pretty good and I really like the gameplay. The only problem is possibly the violence and mild language. The violence can be turned off to make the body's just fall to the ground blood free. The language is barely present, you will here "hell" a lot but the only language there is other than that is said by grunts and I was barely able to hear it. With the violence turned off this is a game that anyone 13 or older should easily be able to play without the slightest problem. The only reason you kill in this game is for self defense really. I played this game all the way through, I am 13 and can assure you this is a perfectly fine game!

I'm only six and I loved this game. I thought there was hardly any violence even with it turned on. This was my favorite game until i played Gears of War 2. This game has great graphics it swears a little. There is some blood but just enough. I give it a 4/5 But Gears of War 2 I give it a 10 out of five. i recommend this game to all viewers. this game shoud have been T.

This game wrote the book on first person shooters.
It has an absolutely compelling story mode, and an insanely addictive multiplayer. I put in hours on this game, the weapons and levels are unique and fun!
The gore is next to nothing. There is a blood splat, but it's no worse than you’ll see on a T-game.
But It all just adds to the effect of the game. I’d feel a little more satisfied if blood came out of a dude, then if he just fell over.

Bottom Line: Just get it! Its a classic!

(sorry about the double post. Just fixed a few errors.)

This game, even wtih all the gore, isn't too bad. Sure the graphics are crappy compared to today, but games aren't all about the graphics and sound quality, it's the storyline that makes or breaks a game. I think you may have overemphasized on the gore though. It is extremely graphic, but gore chunks don't fly across the room. Otherwise very good review.
