Jedi Academy is the sequel to Jedi Outcast and like Outcast its a mix of a third and first person shooter. The player has the ability to create their own character, choosing either male or female gender, and picking one of many alien or human races. The player is also able to customize their lightsaber in the beginning.
The player takes the role of Jaden Korr, a new student arriving at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. Jaden, along with fellow student Rosh Penin, becomes an apprentice to Kyle Katarn. As an apprentice, the player is dispatched on various peace-keeping missions across the galaxy, many of which involve battling the Disciples of Ragnos; a sith cult that is stealing Force energy from Force-rich locations across the galaxy.
Violence: Although entirely bloodless, you will spend most of the time shooting your enemies, hacking them with your lightsaber, pushing them off cliffs, or choking them with a force power. Also, if you have dismemberment turned on, you have the ability to cut off arms and legs, although it is a rare occurrence even with it turned on.
Language: Hell is used a few times by Kyle, and I heard D**n maybe once.
Spiritual Content: As in everything else Star Wars, you use “The Force”. You also have the ability to choose between good and evil, and the choice you make affects the ending.
Sexual Content: None.
Gameplay: The FPS aspect of the game is adequate at best. But the lightsaber battles are where the game truly shines. You really feel like a Jedi, but it is still very hard to defeat other lightsaber wielding enemies. But although it takes nothing more than clicking, the battles are always different and beautifully choreographed. The force powers are also a joy to use: It never gets old to force choke a Dark Jedi and throw him over the cliff, or pull a bunch of enemies weapons right out of their hands.
Overall: A great Star Wars game and I think it’s the best one involving lightsabers. The game is very clean and I recommended for anyone over 11.
