This has to be one of the best games i've ever played in my life. There's soo much to do and explore. But yes the Dark Brotherhood can be gruesome at times becuase the whole point of it is to kill for their lord or whatever called sithus. And yes it does take the lords name in vain twice from what ive seen.
Awesome game though

This game should have remained T. Any teen can play this game, but there is no option to disable gore on the Xbox 360 version, as opposed to the PC. The graphics are beautiful, and it is for any RPG fan. There are brief mentions of affairs between other characters, as well as quite a few uses of "d**n and "b*****d". I also encountered a shocking use of G*d**n early on, but there are nine gods plus the Daedra, so it wasn't necessary our Lord. If you get the game of the year edition, you will find whole guilds devoted to murder, theft, and fighting. The Shivering Isles encourages sadistic torture, so I will not play it, regrettably. But--interestingly enough--the Mages forbid necromancy and demon worship, like the Bible.

I myself own this game and sure, they do say d*** a few times and there is a bit of blood. But what would you expect from a game rated mature? If you want a mature game, get a mature game. If you don't want a game with gore, get a game about something else.

This game is immersive and packed full of things to do. It is one of the strongest, most well-done RPGs I've ever seen, but this comes at a price. Obscenity lurks in the corners of this game- it is avoidable, if you know where it is, but it is there. (As with most RPGs, anything is avoidable, and pretty much anything is also doable, within the game's programming.) If the player is aware of where the M rated content is, he can certainly enjoy the rest of the T rated game. (ESRB has debated Oblivion's rating and has changed it from T to M even after it was released. This is solely because of the sexual content that is implied in miniscule sidequests which can in fact be avoided.)

Unfortunately games today arn't worried about the relevance of language, they just want it in there. Sure it may be a mythological game, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few misuses of the lord's name in vain popped up.

The Lord's name in vain? That seems unlikely, given the mythology of the Elder Scrolls series. I could be wrong, though... it's been a while since I've played it.

I don't remember them using the lord's name in vain, but I could be wrong. It's been a while since I started a new game. As for the the blood and such, it's quite heavy at times. If you slash a player, especially while they're sleeping blood will splatter on the wall. I know this because I did it just the other day.

I'm near positive the game used the Lord's name in vain early on and that is why I will no longer play it.

There's a lot of purely dark elements in this game. The Dark Brotherhood has you commit a great deal of assassinations and other less that pleasant crimes. They're avoidable, of course... but there nonetheless.

Oblivion is one of my favorite games, ever. I've had it for over a year and still play it (and still haven't beaten it in its entirity). The violence is minimal, hardly anything really. To be honest, the most blood comes from crabs you can kill. Everything else barely gushes at all. There is almost no gore (a few zombies, already gored; nothing you inflict). As far as spiritual aspects, you have to take the game as an alternate reality. There is no real god. There is no Jesus. So inadvertantly, there is no Christianity. If you can get over that you'll love this game.
