Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

   This is a pretty good game but it depends on what system you play it on. I have the wii and xbox 360 version and I prefer the wii version the most. One because you can duel with your wii remote and it will make you feel like a Jedi and 2 it’s just fun. The only problem is the graphics are not great and it’s really short and easy. Now the xbox version I’m not happy with. I don’t like the controls and I don’t like the gameplay. I guess you can say that the force unleashed is both a good and bad game.

   Klaatu,
   I have played the Wii version, PSP version, and I have and have beaten the PS3 version. Wii and PSP don’t come close to standing a chance agains the PS3 version, which is the same as the Xbox 360 version. Wii is fun, but PS3 beats it buy a mile. I did not find anything offensive, or to violent. And I don’t think there was any Dismembering. I’m not trying to be like ” I told you so ” but in my opinion the PS3 version is better then the Wii version and so is the 360 version.

   A decent game worth the money on Ps2 but there are some bad things 1. Both endings are sad 2. the game is way too short and 3. the sabers crystals and hilts are REALLY difficult to find but if you look on the internet there are cheats to find them all.
   Good stuff 1.Moves are cool 2.the costumes cheat and unlockable rock 3.and its just FUN taking out the imperials like swatting flies ha. In overall its a good game but can be frustrating at points if you have a starwars game collectoin but it at the front.

   I must say this is the funnest action Star Wars game I’ve played since Jedi Academy (EpIII was ok, but could have been better).

   The graphics were beautiful. The gameplay – force powers, saber fighting – was a blast.

   One other thing that was kind of annoying for us xbox360 owners…no dualing mode. I had a blast with that in EpIII.

   As with many other SW games, you have a choice to follow the dark side or the light side. You would think one ending would be happy, but I found both a bit depressing. Other than that, I enjoyed the game a great deal.

   This game, has MANY offensive things. First, the game focuses on powers involving the Force, and many practices closely related to witchcraft, such as ESP (Star Wars style) , telekinesis, and predicting the future in the way of soothsayers, are commited within the cutscenes and gameplay. Also, the deaths are (although not gory) rather aggressive, especially some that give the “luxury” of hearing bones crack. One character becomes drunk within the game, and constantly states his desire to die. A certain female character dresses only slightly suggestively, although I don’t believe this is as bad as other games.
   However, the game has a strong moral sense, promulgating themes such as redemption, love, morality, truth, and duty.

   ESP? Are you serious? Wow, I don’t understand where you get witchcraft out of Star Wars. No spell-casting, no pentagrams, no gore, no sex, and always a moral theme.

   I agree with you on the violence, and if it bothers you, then it’s definitely not a game for you. However, the powers of the Force are fantastical and have few ties to witchcraft (actually, the mythology was based on a combination of Hinduism and Christianity, among scattered others). I think Christians are too tough on fantasy in movies, books, or games. I believe fantasy is a gift from God we can use to view the world in different ways, and sometimes, just to entertain ourselves (often both at the same time). I’m not the only one around here who thinks that either, but you’re also not alone in your thinking, which is why the opinions of our reviewers can vary greatly, and it’s also why games rarely get a “Strong Caution” for fantasy elements alone. You are entitled to your opinion, and I mean no offense whatsoever; I just wanted to throw that out there. Food for thought, so to speak.

   i played this game on the psp and beat it ( twice ) and i think that there is no gore no violance no sugestive themes nothin its just an awsome game. and has a positive moral every level.

    @Jake:

    Yes, there was an element of ESP. Characters knew what everyone was thinking, sensed people entering, and even predicted the future. If that isn’t extra-sensory perception, then who knows what is?!
    The Force has always been tied to Eastern Mysticism.

    I see your point on the pentagrams, but remember, satan can appear as an angel of light. Satanic things are almost never apparent, unless it is spotted through the Truth.

    Is it not the purpose of this site to find out whether or not games are Christian-friendly? I thought this game was wonderful, and had strong moral values, but as a Christian and reviewer, I am recommended to point out the suggestive themes in this game, and I have done so in my last posts.

    Violence is just an issue I listed. I was only slightly offended by it. What I was offended by is one thing, but what is Biblical is another.

    This site’s purpose is to see whether games are right for a Christian player, judging them by Biblical standards. I had listed the offensive material, since I saw that no one had listed it.

    However, that does not detract from the “fun” factor. This game is a wild ride, and perfect for Star Wars fans.

    I liked the game, but I must point out that I wish it had more choices, like KOTOR, or was longer and less frustrating at parts (with the glitches, and annoying difficulty at certain times, etc.)

    However, this game, like I’ve said before, is awesome. The graphics are breathtaking, and the physics are extremely realistic. The gameplay is extremely entertaining.

    If this violence in force unleashed bothers you I read a verse in the Bible and this is what a Christian king and his soldiers had to do.

    now that is way more violent then hit a guy with a light saber. and that’s what the Lord told them to do so I’m just pointing that out.

    I never said the violence bothered me. It is surprising that a Star wars game went to an aggressive extent (hearing the bones of characters break). Also, violent games might hurt people who are sensitive to it, such as children and Young Christians. So I listed the violence to forewarn future buyers of the game.

    And bear in mind, what God commanded in that scripture was in the cause of Just war, not on the whim of a Sith Lord. I don’t want to elaborate on the killing too much, as I guess I would spoil the game’s ending(s).

    (Oh, a word of advice thats kinda off-topic: Be careful with the NIV Bible, its not as accurate as the KJV of the Bible.)

    Raul, I must say that the ‘force’ (I’m almost sure) is like the starwars version of God. I think George Lucas meant that. The Jedi use it in their battles and call on it for help. It is like Darth Sidious was satan and It’s like we are Luke. Vader is like Jesus even though he was a villan. Vader saved Luke and died for him. So I think the force was meant to be the opposite of witchcraft.

    I’d say Vader is more like someone who turns away. Just because they fall, that doesn’t mean they are eternally lost; they can always choose to come back. I’d also say the Force was meant to show that there is a spirtual side to the world, and that there are two parts to that spirtual realm. There is a side that we follow, as Christians, the side of God.

    You could say that, and it wouldn’t probably wrong. But The Force has a lot more in common with easter religions than with Christianity (finding the answers within yourself, a focus on balance, etc). Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars to death and I love learning about the force (reading star wars EU); but it could lead people to look into Buddhism and the like.

    But, anyways the Bible has some distrubing moments that can never be reenacted correctly movie,video game or anything. Think of the pain and suffering of our LORD Jesus Christ. Nothing can compare to it.

    There is too much arguing about the force. The purpose of this site is to tell you the content of the game. You make the decision once you know this. There is a good and bad view to everything. No one should tell you what you will allow personally, but this site is here to help you make this decision.

    (P.S. I think the psp version is the cleanest version)

    I have the Wii version. I have not played through the whole game yet, only about 4 and a half, but still, this is a fun game. Some of the force power combos are hard, but they can be learned. It's really fun just smashing people into walls or trroiwing things with the force. Violent, but not extremely. Levels can be long, and most bosses are challenging. I think one boss you fight in the Jedi library is a witch and she was creepy. Mostly you fight good as a bad guy, but it doesent majke you want to kill people in real life. I've heard no bad language, and like i said, no extreme violence. So far the game is great. I suggest you buy the Wii version.

    Actually I lately read that George Lucas refers to New Ageism with the force, as New Age revolves about a power, or "force" as you may call it, that can be found in everyone and trained to greater hights. ( Isent that what Yoda says to, "The Force be in everyone" something like that.)

    vader is more like the prodigal son. The closest anyone comes to jesus in star wars is probably obi wan (at least in the original trilogy) he sacrificed himself for Luke's benefit and afterword his spirit was with Luke as his guide throughout episodes 4-6. As far as the moral content of force unleashed, i'd probably give it 7 or 8 out of 10. I'd say this game is best for mature christians and not so much for younger christians or kids. If you think about it, it has sort of a prodigal son type theme assuming that you choose the "heroic ending"

    Thank you. You are right, it is a personal conscience thing. If the Force bothers you don't play. Also don't judge those who do play. If the Force doesn't bother you then you're OK to play. Don't despise those who don't play. That being said, I find the game boringly easy, so I wouldn't recommend it in any case, but that's another issue.

    Edit: Why is the second person subjective pronoun sometimes filtered out like it was a cuss word?

    Edit: It only happens when I put a comma after it, hence the bad punctuation.

    Right. Being able to throw stuff around without touching it, sense the presence of others, and get glimpses of the future isn't inherently evil in and of itself; it's only bad when you rely on demonic forces to do it (which is for the most part the only way to do it IRL). The force isn't demonic; it's just…there. It's about as neutral as air or water or anything else, and is only as good or bad as the people that use it (hence the "Dark Side" stuff: using the force as a weapon for selfish or evil means as opposed to using it and the abilities it grants to defend yourself and others).
