Prototype

   Looks like a very brutal game with yet another overpowered villain character. I’m tired of culture glorifying dark and evil characters these days- especially overpowering villains and making them incredibly unstoppable. Its the kind of game that’s fodder to teen culture these days- the culture that’s easily obsessed with the dark, bloody and vampiric. Who cares about realistic, human characters anymore?

   I’ve read a preview on this game once- about how your character here can chop people in half as he runs through the streets- complete with all the gory details. It looked like just one big bloodbath- all caused by this one twisted up character here.

   From gamespot:

   “It’s almost impossible to play Prototype without feeling like Mercer is an overpowered character at some point… Targeting innocent civilians isn’t encouraged, incidentally, but Mercer isn’t a character who shows any remorse as he tears up Manhattan and is a danger to anyone and anything that’s living. And make no mistake: Prototype is a truly brutal game when Mercer is on the warpath. Enemies will be cut in half horizontally, torn in half vertically, have holes punched clean through them, and be decapitated, skewered, and even used as projectiles. And all the while, there’s a plentiful (though not overly excessive) supply of blood spilling onto the streets. These particularly gruesome kills are accompanied by sound effects that do a decent job of letting you know exactly when an enemy’s flesh is being compromised…”

   Just curious, can you even turn the gore off in this game? I have heard conflicting reports on the matter and would like to know if you can. Thanks in advance.

   No you can’t, from the sources I’ve checked, and that still doesn’t change the game’s violent nature. Gore or no gore, you’re still chopping people in half and playing as a pretty sick character. Sick, in the connotation of, twisted.

   Again, it’s not gore, or lack thereof, that makes a game beneficial or not. Frankly I don’t see the benefit in a game where all you do is run around, chop people up, get more powerful, and chop more people up. Of course, I am biased, and yes, this game does look like it has a deeper story behind it… but the darkness in the game and the heavy violence seems to overpower the intriguing story element.

   Since games are for entertainment, I think it’s safe to say that there’s better games to play for entertainment then Prototype. Again, I’m biased, and everyone is on different levels in their spiritual walk so the game’s content may not effect them at all. This is all just IMHO.

   For the Christian, I think it is important to think of these 3 things before making a choice: Ask yourself, 1) Is it permissable? Is it breaking any laws? 2) Is it beneficial? Is it helping me in any way? 3) Is it benefiting others? How does it effect how people perceive me, and does it distance people, believers or non-believers from me?

   If playing Prototype doesn’t break the law, and if it benefits you in some way (or I guess you could say, ‘it isn’t HARMING me, but still…), and if it doesn’t bother anyone around you… then sure, have at it.

   I got this game, not really realizing how brutal and gory it was going to be, not to mention the constant strong language during cut-scenes, I played it for all of about ten minutes before deciding I need to sell it on ebay. If you have a ps3, I’d say get infamous instead.

   A great game with great gameplay with a great storyline to go along with. Hours of fun gaming is guaranteed. Its not against Christianity because its not real. Its a game.

   Yeah, borrowed it from My Cousin, I thought it was disgusting the only thing i liked was the way He ran on walls. I’d say get Infamous but that also looks very dark (not as violent) but definately very dark.

   @Shaun: Infamous actually gives you the moral choice to be good or bad. I’ve heard Infamous is really fun.

   I personally think that dissing a game just because its bloody is a pretty dumb reason.
   I mean, if you get a cut and see yourself bleed, are you going to freak out cuz your your not 17?
   I’m glad this game is out for pc! It looks like a fun crazy-action game.

    I love this game! A bit brutal but the weapons are excellnet and the story is great

    I agree! All the differant powers are soo much fun. They have a great variety to choose from. The story was also good, but I think the voice acting on the cut-scenes could’ve been a little better.

    This is a game no Christian should play. Yeah, blood is in our everyday lives, but all the unnecessary bloodshed in this game and the language is not what Christians should be playing. I bought this game without realizing how much was actually in it. I would not recommend this game to anyone and have steered a few of my friends away from this game. While Mercer does feel regret for killing these people as you go through the game, but only because they torment him with horrid memories and screams in his mind. If you could play this game with God sitting next to you, then go ahead. But we should be trying to cut out what we can that is worldly, not pump it in.

    you can skip scenes and turn voices all the way down but that does not take the gore away, even if you think you chould handle it this game should not be played by anyone under 17.

    As much as I'd love to run up the side of a building, jump off, turn my arm into a sword and slice a helicopter in half in mid-air, then plunge to the ground on a group of infected zombies, leaving nothing but a large crater where I landed, this game just seems a little bit too bloody for my tastes.

    I have this game and it is very violent. Chopping people in half is typical and there are several curse words. The Lords name is used in vain several times also.

    If you skip the cut scenes then you don't know whats going on. Then the game isn't as good because you don't know the story. The story is confusing though. There also is language when you are playing anyway although you can turn down the voices.

    This game is extremely bloody and many curse words are used but if you can handle that then you should get it because it is a great game.

    Yeah, a game that's bloody is one thing, a game that's TOO bloody…
    …that's when this comes in.
    Yeah, you shouldn't entirely leave a game for its blood, but when it's like this, that's when you have a choice to get it or not.
    And do you realize you're ignoring what Paul said? He said that if somebody else had a problem with eating food offered to idols (in this case, playing violent video games), not to say that they're overreacting and it's ok, sure, it's ok, but don't try to force the fact that it's ok into their brains, if they have a problem with eating food offered to idols (violent video-games again), so be it.

    They should really make a game that gives you this kind of power (and by "kind", I mean"level"; I don't mean another game where you play as Jim Carpenter's The Thing) and actual moral choice in using it.
