Viking: Battle for Asgard is a hack-n-slash action adventure game steeped in Norse mythology. The war between the gods has spilled into the human world of Midgard, and the forces of good have placed their hope in the Viking warrior Skarin, their champion, the last hope for the mortal realm. Viking is one of the best hack-n-slash adventures to come along in recent years, and it is certainly the best yet to appear on next-generation consoles. But a number of glitches and a lack of innovation in the latter hours hold Viking back from true greatness. Viking's gameplay and offensive content are comparable to Fable and God of War, with the main hangups being excessive gore and constant references to the Norse gods.

In 1999, Sonic Team brought Sonic Adventure to Sega’s console, the Dreamcast. In 2001, they delivered once again with Sonic Adventure 2, which brought even more acclaim to the series. In 2004, the team released Sonic Heroes for the newer consoles, which improved upon the Sonic Adventure games in almost every way. These games brought forth new, mostly colorful characters and even more speed-based gameplay to the Sonic universe.

Graphic adventure fans rejoiced when Touch Detective was announced for 2006, but that charming collection of bizarre mysteries was soured by illogical puzzles and frustrating pacing issues. Basically, the puzzles made little to no sense, and until you were lucky enough to figure out the solution you were stuck. This sequel, Touch Detective 2 1/2 somewhat improves on the formula by more handily pointing us in the right direction, but it's still not enough to make the game accessible to anybody but the most patient and determined gamers.

This is perhaps one of my favorite games. If you are a fan of Gears of War or the X-box/PS2 hit, "Mercenaries" then you will instantly fall in love with this game. You play as one of two characters, Tyson Rios or Elliot Salem, two friends who met in the Army Rangers. During your first mission you are aided by the top mercenary in the world, Philip Clyde. After you've completed the mission he tells you of his employers, SSC, and how they'd make a great new addition. Rios and Salem become the newest addition to SSC's mercenary group immediately after.

Having played through all of Oblivion, I was eager to sample the first full expansion pack, Shivering Isles. In some ways the Isles are more of the same: same music, same humanoid character models, same quest structure, same glitchy game code. But whereas the land of Tamriel (the kingdom you play in Oblivion) was traditional and rather stale, the Shivering Isles are colorful and fantastic, much Alice's Wonderland. This is because the Isles themselves are a reflection of the mind of its ruler: Lord Sheogorath. And like every other citizen in the Realm of Madness, Lord Sheogorath is insane. Like the guard tells you before you walk through the door, perfectly normal people go in, but they come out raving lunatics, their minds the property of Lord Sheogorath.
